Radio connection problems

Hi, I have two Roberts internet radio's, a 93i and a 95i. Both are connected to wifi and both work individually from Spotify.

I want to control them both from the UNDOK app. The 93i works fine but UNDOK can't find the 95i.

The 93i is connected to 2.4GHz and the 95i to 5 GHz. Could this be the problem and if so can I make both frequencies visible to the App? or can I change the 95i to 2.4GHz? Both frequencies were assigned automatically on setup.

Any help appreciated. Thanks, Dave.

Re: Radio connection problems

Hi Dave,

A warm welcome to the forums.

Seems as though this might be a common issue.  A quick search found this - Internet radio no longer visible in UNDOCK : r/HomeNetworking

and this Undok no longer finding Roberts Stream 83i — Digital Spy

It ought not to matter which SSID the radios are connected to, they should appear equally on the LAN as two IP addresses.  Just to confirm, there is only the one WAP in your setup - the Plusnet router?

Re: Radio connection problems

Hi Townman, thanks for responding. I only have the one WAP, the Plusnet router.

Re: Radio connection problems

Can you see the connection details of both radios in the router admin screen?

If you shutdown the radio which the controller is connected to, does it then find the other?

@Townman you're correct, it shouldn't but I think it does!. I suspect the app will only connect to devices on the same wifi band as that to to which the device running the app is connected. I've seen similar effects when casting to a TV from a laptop, it will only find the TV if connected to the same wifi band. Unfortunately this makes life difficult if you have a Hub 2 since you can't split the bands and so force devices onto the same band. Temporarily disabling 5ghz and connecting everything to 2.4ghz should prove whether that's the problem.

I've no idea what protocols these apps use to 'discover' devices but its obviously not simple IP. Having said that , my latest TV works perfectly even when using a wired connection with the laptop wireless!.

Re: Radio connection problems

@DaveSquibb

Out of interest, have you checked that both radios have different MAC addresses?

I would expect for a well known brand like Roberts, that they do. However, I have had experience in the past where I had two devices with the same MAC address, (which in theory, shouldn't happen).

The devices in this case were cheap Android TV boxes. I bought one and was so happy with it that I bought a second one for another TV.

That's when the problems started: either of the boxes worked fine if only one of them was switched on, but if both were on at the same time, all sorts of weird problems started happening! It took me ages to work out what the problem was: these devices were exact clones - right down to having the same MAC addresses, which of course couldn't be changed.

I had to sell one of them in the end and bought a different brand one.

Re: Radio connection problems

@Townman

The 93i which is working in UNDOK shows as 192.168.1.141(DCHP) 2.4GHz, the 95i shows as 192.168.1.134 (DCHP) 5GHz in the Hub 2 manager page.

I tried turning off (at the wall!) the 93i but UNDOK still doesn't see the 95i

Re: Radio connection problems

If you were replying to my last post, what you have posted is the IP addresses, not the MAC addresses.

Re: Radio connection problems

Given that they've been allocated different IP addresses by DHCP , they must have different MACs

Re: Radio connection problems

@Mr_Paul @MisterW @Townman

Both Radio's have different MAC addresses.

My device with UNDOK installed is connected to 2.4GHz, the same as the working 93i, BUT my wife has UNDOK on her device which is connected to 5GHz and she can see the 93i but not the 95i (5Ghz)

Re: Radio connection problems

@DaveSquibb

The Apple and Android versions of the UNDOK app may behave differently and maybe not support the same devices, which versions are you using?

Re: Radio connection problems

@DaveSquibb

I note the 93i is an old product to the 95i, so it's two UNDOK apps not connecting to the 93i and 95i

Can you clarify which (both UNDOK apps) isn't connecting/seeing what?

It was mentioned earlier have you tried turning of the 5GHz wireless to see if that removes the issue, not to be seen as the permanent fix

Looking at google play I see the 95i has a dedicated app, maybe just use UNDOK app for the 93i

Re: Radio connection problems

@Dan_the_Van

My wife and I each have UNDOK installed on our respective devices. Neither can detect the new 95i, both can detect the 93i.

The reason I mentioned both is because one device is connected on 2.4GHz and one on 5 Ghz.

Are you suggesting turning off 5GHz to see if the 95i will connect to 2.4GHz? Not sure this will help as neither UNDOK device  can see the 95i.

The Roberts app is awful. Music files which are in folders according to artist and albums show as such in UNDOK but just as a vast list of tracks in random order on the Roberts app
