Thanks to everyone who has jumped on this thread with their findings. I won't pretend to understand what a lot of you have said, but it shows that I'm not the only one experiencing it on a Plusnet connection.

Does anyone have any idea on how to get the problem fixed? My experiences of reporting obscure problems such as this to Plusnet telephone support aren't great: they are fine if your connection has failed completely due to broken wires etc, but something like this is a waste of time calling them, (in my experience).

Also seeing the issue here for at least 48 hours now, only seems to be Wikipedia affected both web access to the site and also via the Wikipedia app. Browser and OS irrelevant 

Using a vpn to change routing resolves the issue so must be something amiss on Plusnet/bt’s core somewhere.

This issue is also affecting some BT Broadband customers as well.

I'm a Plusnet FTTC customer, and I have been unable to use wikipedia for two days now.  Spotted this trail of posts, so disconnected WiFi and connected to EE on my phone and everything was perfect.  So this problem would appear to be Plusnet related.  Downdetector says Plusnet is OK, although there have been a few complaints.  Connected to neighbour though, also on Plusnet and all worked.  I need to check if this is a DNS issue, I may have changed the default DNS server, or maybe setting a differenct DNS server may be a temporary fix.

I  also cannot connect to Wikipedia using Firefox or Chrome on a MACbook Pro and android phone via my Plusnet Broadband.  Like others have found it is ok using my Vodafone data connection.

It’s not DNS related. It’s a routing issue on BT’s core somewhere, especially as it’s affecting people on BT broadband too.
Not everyone will take the same path to Wikipedia depending on your exchange breakout (i.e where you are in the country)
Interesting one though, that it seems to only be affecting Wikipedia!

No, nothing to do with DNS.  Changed DNS server, but the IP address for wikipedia is resolving as 185.15.59.224 in all cases,  including neighbours connection.   When I run about 20 pings to wikipedia on the neighbours connection, I get 100% success, and an average of about 40 mS.  

On my connection I get only a 30-40% success rate.   So the connection is intermittent and unreliable.  Why should my Plusnet connection be unreliable to wikipedia but my neighbours one works?

Did you do that via telephone, (I've not had much success reporting this sort of problem like that in the past), or some other way?

To clarify for (hopefully) Plusnet Support, it is affecting some customers of both Plusnet and BT Broadband. I don't know about EE Broadband customers, but my mobile phone is on EE and Wikipedia is working OK on that.
