Full fibre activation date

I'm an existing Plusnet customer, decided to upgrade to full fibre. Router is here, BT engineer confirmed for tomorrow to fit ONT box, but I can't see an email or message from Plusnet saying when my new full fibre connection will go live. I've taken the day off work for the install but was really hoping it might be activated ready to start WFH on Tues - in other people's experience is this over optimistic? Am I going to have to take more time off work? And if it isn't live yet, how can the engineer test that the set up is working as it should? Sorry if that's a daft question. Thanks

Re: Full fibre activation date

@FeeConn Your FF connection should  'go live' once the installation engineer has installed the ONT, or within a very short time after they have got Opereach to 'switch it on'. The installation takes about 1 - 1.1/2 hours, and once all the lights  on the ONT are green, and the router connected, they will (or certainly should) test it to ensure it is working and delivering the contracted speed. Plusnet do not need to give you a 'live' date.

Great, thank you - that's reassuring. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan tomorrow!

No reason why it shouldn't.

@FeeConn

I assume you know your landline ceases with a FTTP service.

I believe OR engineers have a test account they can use to confirm things are working. This would be programmed into their work laptop.

Re: Full fibre activation date

I  would imagine they do, @bmc - you are , I understand you are advised of that during the sign-up/change-over journey.

My (Quinns) installer did not have a laptop - he merely checked my connection - or more correctly, waited until I had.

Yes, I know we won't have a landline once the new connection is live. Will the old socket and line be removed at the same time do you know?

Re: Full fibre activation date

It depends, @FeeConn  - mine wasn't, but the ONT was installed at a completely different location to my old master socket. The best thing to do is discuss it with the engineer on the day. They are usually very helpful/obliging.

@FeeConn

If you have an overhead feed then you could ask for the line to be removed. With an u/g feed I suspect they would leave the copper cable in place.

If the ONT is going in the same general location of the Master Socket they night use this for the ONT (or they might not). As already stated, speak to them before the install starts.
