Spend A Night In With Our BFI Blogger Boxes

bowl of popcorn As the year comes to an end and our time at work winds down, most of us are going out and celebrating. However, even the most energetic of us can get tired of socialising with friends before the New Year. Sometimes, you need to snuggle down and relax instead. That’s why we’ve partnered with the BFI to create the perfect movie night in. As part of the BFI LOVE season, we decided to treat some of our favourite bloggers to a night with some of the greatest romantic movies ever made. Just 20 bloggers received our BFI Blogger Boxes, which included:

  • Cucumber Eye Masks and Cucumber Peel-off Face Mask – the best way to begin your relaxing night in.
  • Face Wipes and Headband – Perfect for natural, healthy skin and keeping hair out of your eyes while being pampered. What better way to feel relaxed!
  • Tissues – If you’re going to watch a romantic movie, you need to be prepared for tears!
  • Popcorn – The ultimate movie snack!

Our chosen bloggers were treated to the likes of My Best Friend’s Wedding and When Harry Met Sally, as well as the classics Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Casablanca. From the antics of Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, to the timeless appeal of ‘Bogie and Bacall’, there’s always something to pull at the heartstrings and provide a few laughs along the way. Our movie-lovers also received information on how to watch even more excellent movies through the BFI player, meaning they could turn their movie night into a double bill! Here’s what some of our bloggers had to say about their amazing nights in: Credit Crunch Chic BFI blogger box contents “I received an array of pampering products from face wipes to eye masks and I added in my nail polish and body lotion as well to make the evening all about relaxation. There was even a packet of popcorn, too; a must have for any self-respecting movie night! I love a feel-good film and I also adore films about love in the less overt sense; films like Shirley Valentine where a woman learns of her own self-importance and how she has to love herself; Billy Elliot where a passion and love for an art becomes all-encompassing, and The Full Monty where the love and depth of friendship has never been more apparent.” – Amie from Credit Crunch Chic BFI Blogger Box contents - Wander with Laura “Plusnet kindly sent me a package of essentials to get my night in started and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it would be to recreate this treat night in feeling abroad. While it’s unlikely you’ll be carrying DVD’s, almost everybody now will have some kind of device with them while travelling, whether it’s a laptop, mobile or tablet. Log into the Wi-Fi and stream a film – when it comes to comfort watching, an old favourite always does the trick for me.” – Laura from Wander With Laura Oh Chlo BFI Blogger Big Night In “With face masks on (not that you can tell much with my pale, pale skin), popcorn 'popped' and Breakfast at Tiffany's at the ready, we were all set for a good ol' girly night. We then checked out the BFI player, which had some of our favourites like Notting Hill, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Bridget Jones...and don't you go to telling me you don't agree! Especially now it's all dreary outside, I can see this type of evening being a reoccurring event, and I'm not complaining one bit!” – Chloe from Oh Chlo Crafternoon Cabaret Club BFI Blogger Box “I loved receiving my package (and having a reason to make my husband watch some really girly films with me!) and it got me thinking. As you may know I’m a big fan of handmade and experience gifts – why not combine the two into awesome film-night presents – each made to fit the genre of your giftee’s favourite movies. Romance is covered – thanks PlusNet and their lovely package of pampering goodies but how about these: Gangster: Kick back to a classic gangster flick while enjoying: a mini bottle of whiskey, a pack of cards, some gold coins, a skinny black tie and some shades Big Hit Musical: Get involved with a showbizzy hit (Chicago, The Producers…) with a package that contains: a kazoo (to play along..obvs), some throat sweets (just in case), party poppers for that big finale and lots and lots of sparkly eye makeup Scary: Lock the doors, pull up the sheets and brave your favourite scary movie with a bag of gummy teeth, a black eye mask to hide behind when it gets too much, a cross to ward off any curious demons, some holy water *yeah fine or gin* and a little capsule of fake blood so you can scare the hell out of your movie buddy when they leave the room to go to the toilet.” – Hannah from Crafternoon Cabaret Club What I Know Now BFI blogger Big Night In “The box included the DVD My Best Friend's Wedding, one which was nice because I'd not seen it before, alongside some popcorn to enjoy whilst watching the film! Then there were some beauty products so that you can turn the night into a pamper session too, made up of a face mask, face wipes, a headband and eye mask! Oh and some tissues for those people who cry easily at films! All in all, I think the box is perfect for a girlie night in with your friends. I think this is such a lovely campaign, and it's perfect for us to connect with friends, put away our phones and enjoy a cosy night in. It's hard to think of inspiration sometimes when it's so cold and dark, but a lovely little box like this is brilliant for keeping you entertained this winter!” – Sam from What I Know Now Vicki's Beauty BFI Blogger Box “In my box I have all the essentials for a cosy night in, either on my own, with friends or with my partner… so after a long, busy week this comes in really handy 🙂 I have always loved girly movies and one of my faves is "My Best Friend’s Wedding" such a beautiful love story!” – Vicki from Vicki’s Beauty Queen Beady BFI Blogger Big Night In “It got us thinking about how fabulous the British Film Insitute is and how many of our favourite British films are absolute classics. Some of our favourites include Snatch, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Layer Cake. Whilst they aren’t quite the typical love story, we seem to do British Gangster films pretty well here in the UK and I think it’s because we have some of the finest, funniest and most brilliant actors on home turf. I like gritty films, whilst Blow is not a film made here, it is one of my all-time FAVOURITE films and it will take a lot to knock that one off the top spot.” – Bee from QueenBeady Chocolate and Lipstick BFI Blogger Box contents “Often we have turned to Google Play and even rented a few movies, but it can be expensive for our ‘Lazy Days’. However, this season The British Film Institute has partnered with Plusnet to bring you BFI’s LOVE season, £4.99 per month, showcasing some of the best romantic movies that will either warm your heart, or cause you to burst out in tears (you pick!). Running from now until the end of December, the LOVE season will have viewings via their web browser or BFI player app, as well as cinema screenings and rare releases on DVD. With movie titles such as Bride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Notting Hill, Shakespeare in Love and even Forgetting Sarah Marshall, there will unquestionably be a movie for everyone to watch. We have dove in, watching everything we can! Although personally I can’t stop watching Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It just cracks me up!” – Angela from Chocolate and Lipstick Pretty Green Tea BFI Blogger box contents “I love staying in on a Friday night, especially during the colder months. I always plan to watch a film but then work gets in the way and I spend my evening typing away on the laptop. However, this month I’m aiming to take off one evening a week to snuggle up under a blanket, put on a film and relax. “The other night I finished up with work and dinner at 7. I put on a face mask, covered my hair in coconut oil and settled down for a relaxing evening. Just 20 minutes later the masks came off, I dried my hair, Phil made some popcorn and we spent the rest of the evening drinking tea and watching films. I did end up planning my work for the week ahead whilst watching the film but I didn’t mind. I still took time away from the laptop screen and concentrated on a film which is something I haven’t done in a very long time.” – Daisy from Prettygreentea A Daisy Chain Dream BFI Blogger Box contents “I think a big part of any night in is a pamper session whether you have company or are enjoying some rare downtime alone. Casablanca is an absolute classic and a total must see- the tissues and eye mask were very much required though (but then I do cry at almost everything!) I think the popcorn was intended to be shared but being the popcorn hoover that I am it didn’t get that far, in fact it didn’t even make it in to a bowl, oops!” – Laura from A Daisy Chain Dream Hidden Freckles BFI Blogger Big Night In bowl of popcorn I was sent all the essentials for a move night in including facemasks and popcorn, as well as an account for the BFI player, everything required to watch a classic love film! Popcorn popped, faux fur throw on, facemask applied and coconut oil in hair… time to choose a movie to watch. I decided to watch Breakfast at Tiffany's, as despite having studied film at University - and having reached the grand old age of 26 - I've somehow missed watching this cult classic.” – Elizabeth from Hidden Freckles   Which films will you be snuggling up with this winter?
