Thursday 7th of May
It's Thursday, we're in Sheffield and the sun is shining. Here's the End of Day. We'll kick things off with Simon, from the CSC: Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening (depending when you are reading this). Thursday, although only the 3rd working day of the week due to the bank holiday, hasn't been too bad. No major issues have arisen today, which is always good as it means we are doing a good job at keeping our services top notch. As for the general calls we have been receiving, here is a quick run down: 1. New Faults – These have mainly been in the form of speed issues. These have been from various locations across the country, so we can rule out any major exchange issues. 2. Router Setups – These are very common and usually quite simple. Although some wireless issues can be “fun” to deal with. 3. Email Issues – Mainly incorrect email settings, in multiple email clients. There has also been some issues with Hotmail email still being bounced. 4. Billing – Money is always a sore point with anyone, so problems with money just makes it worse. Mostly failed billing after a change of debit/credit card. 5. Provisioning - Lots of customers asking for updates. Seems to be going well, nothing much else to report really. So as you can see nothing out of the ordinary from our customers today. Right, time for me to go home now, have a nice day wherever you are in the world. Cheers Si! Next up is, er, me with the Comms update! A quick look around the desk reveals that there's not many of us here. Chris has gone home because he's on call. Bob's gone home because he was in late yesterday and he's off on holiday. Mand's been working from home, so that just leaves me and Matt! I've been working on our forums and instigate the start of the Wireshark Revolution and attending our weekly team meeting. Matt's been working on our forums, looking at sending an email to some customers and doing some changes controls. I'll leave you with the latest Commic. I'll thank myself silently. Here's Catherine from QA: Life in QA today has been warm. Hot would be a different word for it, as would roasting, overheated or toasty. The air conditioning has been treating us to its own ideas of what a suitable temperature for working is, so it was with great delight that we heard the dulcet tones of the ice cream van at about half three today. Cue a staged exodus in development as word got around and people were soon sat back at their desks with cooling ice cream cones. The ice cream was stripey, too, which is an innovation. Anyway, aside from afternoon treats, what have we been up to? Gavin's on holiday, so he's not been here. Matt 2 has, once again, been doing sterling work on problems. Gary and Pete have been working on an exciting project which involves lots of frustration, apparently, but also some successes (judging from what they've been saying). Nigel, Paul and I have been working on a project for home phone. Stephen's been going to various meetings and doing managerial things, and Matt has been getting to the bottom of a Java problem we've been having on our staging platform. Have a good evening folks! And that's us for the day. I'm dashing off now to catch the last of the sun and to see if England can take any more wickets by the end of the day! Take care, James
