Re: Static IP no longer available?

As that article indicates, those who already have a static IP address will retain them.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@Townman Although the 'suspect' article referenced in post #41 claims they are going to switch customers to dynamic, 'with 60 days notice'?

Something doesn't smell right, but I've no idea where the stink is coming from.

“so suggests that everyone will revert to dynamic”

No, you infer that from their uninformed speculation. Enquiries advise that those with fixed IP addresses will retain them.

If it did come to they being removed, they’d just get removed and on reconnection, users would then pick up a dynamic IP address.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: Static IP no longer available?

This is pure speculation, but some of those with a fixed IPv4 may find out that they get a new fixed IPv4 (DNS updates will propagate).

However on placing my order to change from ADSL (with a fixed IP since decades) over to FTTP order last week I was told I cannot have a fixed IP any more.

Not just it might be a different fixed IP, but NO fixed IP.

Would be a real issue as my VOIP is in part secured by 'only connect from this IP', as well as a surmountable inconvenience for CCTV/Home auto

Would 'normal' customer service be able to advise the IP pool for a new FTTP ?

Re: Static IP no longer available?

@mwwagain I think you have been 'misinformed' by the agent you spoke to - the static IP is allocated to your account, so a product change should not affect it.

@MisterW - can you confirm my understanding, please?

Agreed, I've not lost my static ip on any of my product journeys adsl -> fttc -> fttp

@jab1 as @dvorak says , that's my understanding too. I suspect, as you say, the agent was wrong but I'll ask the question in the SU space just be be sure the rules haven't changed recently...

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Hi @mwwagain,

To confirm, people who have had an active static IP will be able to keep it, this is for sure.

Moving from one product to another, as others have confirmed, you should most definitely be able to retain the same static IP.

In the worst case scenario it may be a different one, but will remain static.

The agent you spoke to was certainly mistaken in this instance.

If your static IP does get removed and you cannot seem to get it back please let me know so we can look into this though.

Thanks,

Lex

Re: Static IP no longer available?

Thanks Lex

Called today and although initially CS (and next level) again said no static IP, having been directed to your post above they have consulted further and been advised as you state.

The exact wording on my ticket is:

When the product change for FTTP goes through on the account this will remove the static IP from your account. We will then have to raise a task to manually readd it however this process will assign you a new IP address.

I will keep this question open on your account to make sure this is done once the order completes.

So initially dynamic from being connected, then that IP (or another) gets fixed to me.
