This https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=36926.0 would suggest that spec may struggle ...

Might be ok if you don't use any QoS ?

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

Depends on your requirements above and beyond basic routing ?

I use a Tplink ER605 flashed with Openwrt. The Ubiquity ER-X is similar and easier to flash. . Both are based around the mt7621 chip set , which with hardware offloading enabled will handle my 900Mb connection. They are pretty basic hardware , gigabit wan and 4 LAN ports. However with h/w offload disabled ( to allow QoS ) they will max out at around 500Mb

Ideally for a 900Mb connection you need something with at least a 1.6ghz quad core processor to run one of the generic router softwares i.e Openwrt, Opnsense , PFsense

Attached is my basic home Network i will see how it behaves.
I think the router would be the only weak point

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

That's a lot of kit for a home network, I can see why you want a 900Mb connection😁

TBH I'd be inclined to give your existing router a try and see how it performs. If it can't cope , then use the Hub 2 (with wifi disabled?) either on a temporary basis whilst you research a better router, or permanently. The hub 2 will certainly handle the 900Mb throughput.

In my case I use the ER605 with Openwrt (instead of the Hub 2) primarily due to its ability to host a direct VPN connection to my office. It also has a USB port to which I can connect my phone as a 5g backup in case of FTTP failure.

Both the ER605 and the ER-X (no USB) I mentioned can be picked up for around £50. If you wanted to future proof with something that could better handle more throughput then the TPlink ER707 https://www.tp-link.com/uk/business-networking/vpn-router/er707-m2/ might be worth a look BUT its around £200!

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

OK Guys
Bit of a nightmare need some guidance please. Just had it fitted today after 3 months. After fitting it worked i was getting 356 download on Wifi 256 Upload engineer said it would settle down and speed increase.

But it was opposite i lost Wifi then lost  WLAN / LAN i have tried rebooting all the systems but nothing. I have had to add back the old connection and now it works fine.

My setup is described above is there anyway to see what the point of failure is?

My Opnsense modem did not look overloaded and i do not think it would just break the connection?
From Opnsense cable to switch from switch upto Nighthawk Wifi Router?

@OsoPolar

Why are you still using the OPNsense device?

If the Nighthawk Router supports PPPoE connections there should be need for both.

The green cable connected to the ONT could go directly to the Nighthawk WAN port

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

Ok currently (old setup) I have all my IT stuff in one of our cellars in here the external connections for telecommunications comes into the house which is 4 stories.
I have an old open reach modem that feeds my Opnsense router which in turn feeds a switch.

From the switch this feeds the house all floors. But also feeds the Nightghawk router which has ddwrt installed and is only doing WiFi but this is in the main hallway next floor up and covers house. Hope that explains my weird setup

@OsoPolar you mean the DSL connection via the HG612 modem ?

That shouldn't work at all. It sounds like something's gone wrong at Open reach e\with Fibre install

Re: New Hub Two delivered but i need to know how to set into modem mode only

No please let me clarify better.
My old setup still works fine as its not been disconnected yet.
But as i was advised the new setup i only needed to plugin the cat cable from the new install into my Opnsense router and it would work. But it does not  work my router everything fails. But the Fibre box has 3 green lights so something when i switch from my 75 mb to 900mb fibre goes wrong in my Opnsesne router

If you've upgraded your existing account from. FTTC to FTTP  then your existing connection shouldn't be still working!

Have you upgraded or have you created a new account ?
